Yeah of course! Can they create the desired, incremental impact is the real question. Facilitating/emcee-ing is everybody’s cup of tea provided they invest in training themselves.

A good facilitator/ emcee is often the catalyst in driving audience engagement. Your event’s secret ingredient of sorts if you may.

The ability to move audiences, keep the energy high, and make everyone feel belonged – whether it’s an audience of 20 or 2000 – is an emcee’s superpower. And good emcees will never take this superpower for granted. In my years of experience as an emcee/moderator, I’ve realized a few solid takeaways. Here are my top 3:

Read the Energy

As an emcee you have the power and the responsibility to keep the energy of the room steady –  most of the time high but also bring it a notch down if needed.

Preparation is key

As an emcee, you cannot underestimate the role of preparation – whether it’s your first event or your 100th. Right from getting the names of speakers and guests right to keeping a tab on time – the whole nine yards.

The magic box

As an emcee, be prepared to pull off some magic tricks when you least expect it to. Speaker delay? Power cut? Wardrobe malfunction? Technical glitches – you’re the first one to come to the rescue to ensure neither speakers nor the attendees feel awkward. Pull a trick from your box and leave people smiling.

There are a lot more takeaways but that’s for another time perhaps. What are some of the most interesting experiences you have had an as emcee? Feel free to share with us.
